To illustrate her point, Dannielle easily recalls why some of the tracks were on her must-do list when it came time to bunker down in the studio. "Moon River is special because Audrey Hepburn is my idol, and 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' is one of my favourite movies. On this album, I sing this song for her." "You Don't Know Me is a song that I've always loved. A lot of people don't know the real me yet, so that's why I chose this as the title track for the album. It's a chance for people to get to know something about me by the music I have chosen to include." You Don't Know Me is not only packed with classic material, but it is also recorded in an old-world style. The entire album was recorded in Sydney - with the same band she has worked with live - in only two days. "I had an absolute ball doing it," she says. One track, the beautiful Masquerade is Over was recorded in just one take. "That's what we wanted," she says of the spontaneous, intimate and almost live sound evoked by You Don't Know Me. "The whole album is very raw. I wanted to do it that way because that's how most of the old records were done, we recorded each song all together, live. It's a traditional sounding record." Featuring
